Since 1973, Western Ways has proudly served the Western and English riding community with the same values we were founded on—honesty, integrity, and hard work. What began as a small saddle shop on an unpaved road in Forest, Virginia has grown into a well-respected regional destination for quality boots, tack, apparel, and horse care supplies. From our original 2,500-square-foot store to now operating out of two locations totaling over 30,000 square feet, our journey has been fueled by loyal customers, a passionate team, and an unwavering commitment to equestrian and country lifestyle traditions.

The Trail We’ve Ridden

1973 The Birth of Western Ways
Don and Shirley Smith purchased what was then known as the 460 Saddle Shop. They renamed it Western Ways and built a barn-style building in Forest,Description
A Storm Hits
A fallen tree crushed part of the original building, leading to extensive repairs. But with perseverance and community support, Western Ways stood firm and rebuilt stronger.
2001 - A New Era
After shopping at Western Ways for their daughter over several years, Diana and Greg Hobson purchased Western Ways from Don and Shirley Smith. With dreams of growth and service to the community.
2008 – A Major Expansion
Diana and Greg Grew Western Ways rapidly over the last seven years. The store was full and more square footage meant moving to a new location. Taking on the risk and the challenge, they purchased land on Vista Centre Dr. and were approved for a the only retail license on the street at the time.
2017 – Continued Growth
Since 2008 Greg and Diana's son Jake began working for Western Ways and took on growing the mens product in store. By 2017 the men's section needed a new building and Western Ways added an additional 5,000 square foot building we affectionately call the Man Cave.
2018 – Roanoke Location Opens
Shortly after the new building Western Ways launched a second location in Roanoke, VA, originally branded as Anyday Outfitters. The store was later rebranded to Western Ways Roanoke in 2025 to reflect the family legacy and product consistency.
2026 – Launching Our Online Store
We have run out of square footage to build on. Which means growth online is our next mission. Launching our Webstore has been less physical work then opening a new building or location, but has its own challenges that have been fun to take on.
